I am currently working as a Micro Venture Capital Analyst for a Bolivian organization based in La Paz called Pro-Rural. My role here is currently limited to four months as I was sent here on a Canadian Crossroads International internship program funded by the Canadian International Development Agency and Netcorps. My work consists mainly of developing a system to evaluate Pro-Rural’s social and economic effectiveness with regard to its targeted clientèle. Part of the work will include gathering primary data from clients to determine what “effectiveness” means to them as well as data to measure progress to date.
Just before I was offered my current position, I had just finished up a Masters in National and Sub-National Aspects of Development at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs in Ottawa–a gig I left a career as a commercial banker for in 2005. I can’t say it was easy to leave the exciting world of banking. I actually worked for a very good organization, however, it was time to prove to my friends that I hadn’t actually sold out and that I was going to pursue a career in development.
